Many of the criteria for enhanced resilience are documented in standards, FEMA documents, and voluntary programs such as the Institute of Business and Home Safety FORTIFIED program.

PCI Offers Designer’s Notebook on “Tolerances”
PCI has recently published a Designer’s Notebook on envelope tolerances for architectural precast concrete. The Designer’s Notebook explains the three groups of tolerances established for architectural precast concrete: product tolerances, erection tolerances, and interfacing tolerances. The Designerâ€™s Notebook is registered for 1 LU/PDH of CE credit. Take a look.
PCI 2012 Design Awards Open for Entries / May 21st Submission Deadline Approaching
The 2012 PCI Design Awards program recognizes design excellence and construction quality using precast concrete. Be a part of the search for excellence and submit your project. Visit the Design Awards website for complete information including this year’s categories and submission guidelines.
Entries are accepted in two primary categories: buildings and transportation structures. There are also Special Awards categories: the Harry H. Edwards Industry Advancement Award, the All-Precast Solution Award, and the Sustainable Design Award.

Third Edition of PCI Bridge Design Manual Now Available from PCI Bookstore
The third edition of the popular PCI Bridge Design Manual is now available to order from the PCI Bookstore. The manual has been updated to conform to the fifth edition of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, including the 2011 Interim Revisions.
The manual is available both in print and in electronic book versions. The e-book runs on multiple platforms including both Apple and Windows.
A substantial discount will be available for registered holders of the second edition. Webinars will be available to help orient new users of the third edition. Report: Green Buildings More Resilient, Durable
Green buildings could weather storms with more resilience than traditional ones, according to a report from the U.S. Green Building Council and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. The report provides strategies that could make green buildings more durable and "explore[s] how climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts at all scales interact synergistically, with focus on how green building professionals can approach adaptation in the built environment."
