Williams College Parking Structure
More universities are turning to precast concrete components to create multi-story parking structures that take full advantage of limited campus space and growing parking needs.
At Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., parking and HVAC needs were combined to create a 240-car structure that also housed the chiller plant for the school’s new Theatre & Dance Center. Site restrictions, campus architecture and academic scrutiny required the design team to create an aesthetically complex structure. Unistress Corp. in Pittsfield, Mass., supplied the precast concrete components for the project.
The chiller plant features precast concrete wall panels and double-tee roof members. This design allowed the project to be constructed in one year. William Rawn Associates served as the architectural firm on the project, with Barr & Barr Inc. acting as construction manager.
