Route 3 Bridge Over New Found River

This project was the first New Hampshire DOT bridge, in series of projects, to utilize HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE in bridge construction. This piolet program by New Hampshire is similar to many programs being implemented nationally in cooperation with The Federal Highway Administration.

By designing the bridge using HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE (HPC) New England Bulb Tees (NEBT) the state was able to eliminate one GIRDER from the bridge design resulting in a 20% reduction in the cost of the bridge structure. The wider spacing between girders accompanied by this change was further economized and simplified by utilizing 3.5" thick prestressed stay-in-place decking.
