Route 3 Over Interstate 95 & Eight Rod Road Bridge
Time Saving Achieved
These three overpasses near Agusta, Maine, were tendered under one contract. The North and South bound overpasses over Interstate 95 utilized spliced steel girders to achieve the required spans.
The contractor used precast S.I.P. Deck Slabs on both structures to speed up construction and eliminate form striping over a busy highway.
The third overpass, located above a secondary road adjacent to the interstate was constructed using prestressed concrete, New England Bulb Tee girders, 1800mm deep and spanning 36m. S.I.P. prestressed deck slabs were used in conjunction with the concrete girders.
The S.I.P. Slabs save weeks in time over the conventional plywood forms and shoring and striping methods. Traffic can move earlier on roadway under the overpass during construction shutdowns as there is minimal form stripping required.
