Price Chopper Supermarket

Applying to be the First LEED Certified Supermarket in New York State
The Price Chopper Supermarket chain is an American-owned, family-managed company that prides itself on longstanding traditions of innovative food merchandising and leadership in community service. Price Chopper partnered with NYSERDA (NY State Energy Research Development Authority) to develop a state-of-the-art store that will serve as a prototype for future location. The Colonie, NY site will be the first LEED certified supermarket in New York State.

Insulated Wall Panels Installation in 10 Days
Oldcastle Precast Building Systems manufactured 196 pieces for the 69,000 sf store and pharmacy. CarbonCast® insulated wall panels enclose the store as well as create a canopy at the entrance. The energy efficient wall panels have continuous insulation and contribute toward LEED certification of the supermarket by minimizing construction waste, incorporating fly ash in the concrete mix (recycled materials) and with local materials and delivery. The Oldcastle Precast plant was located just 20 miles from the job site and installed the walls in just 10 days.

Oldcastle Precast wall panels feature prominently in this new grocery store for Price Chopper in Colonie, NY. The grand opening took place in June, 2009. The store is setting lofty goals with its sustainable construction practices as well as its operations. This store will serve as a prototype for Price Chopper for future energy efficient supermarkets.
