Six new residence halls, part of the Woodlands Community opened their doors to upper classmen in 2005, offering fully furnished apartment style living located close to the Tripp Athletic Center. Oldcastle Building Systems manufactured and installed more than 5,000 pieces of 8-inch hollowcore slabs for this student housing complex.
Exceeding Customer's Expectations for Quality and Schedule
Nearly 4,000 students live on campus at University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. It was vital to construct a new 1,200 bed student housing complex featuring six four story, L-shaped structures. Oldcastle Precast provided approximately 455,000 sf of hollowcore plank, speeding construction of this fast-track project. A dedicated Oldcastle Precast team, including an on-site installation crew, worked second shifts to meet the product needs and complete this large project within six months, exceeding the customer's expectations for quality and schedule.
“The project required an intense collaboration between owner, architect and contractor to meet the schedule requirements,” says Frederick Kramer, principal of ADD Inc., Boston, MA. The dorms, along with an exceptional masters program, helped UMass Dartmouth retain its ranking as the best public institution of its kind in New England in US News and World Report, 2008 edition of “Americas Best Colleges.”
