athenahealth Parking Structure

athenahealth in Watertown, Massachusetts identified a need for additional parking as part of their campus master plan to support continuing and expanding operations. That need has been met with an impressive precast parking garage opening for traffic in January 2018 which will significantly help access to the campus.

This project highlights some particular capabilities of precast. It was shipped and erected in a tight site finishing ahead of schedule. Other project attributes are the exposed cantilevered stair on tree columns and intricate formliner pattern. Dailey Precast minimized connection defects or fabrication errors to provide a quality fit up. The use of technology helped this process from the initial 3D modeling with the design process to laser layout throughout production. For a garage with 40 thousand or more bearing, bolt and weld connections, the number of miss located plates in the precast can almost be counted on two hands. Utilizing a complete precast Double Tee end wash, precast topped IT beams, and drains cast in the plant saved on site project schedule by minimizing the amount of cast in place field work. This was important to the team to ensure the fast paced schedule was met.

Out of concern with being a good neighbor shipments were restricted and utilized an alternating schedule of roads to minimize congestion. This required a high level of coordination from the fabricator, erector and in particular hauling company all the way to the driver level. Dailey Precast worked closely with EE. Marr, M.W. Leahy Trucking, C.E. Floyd and athenahealth to successfully provide this level of coordination and ultimate success.
